Description Note: Picture shows this same plane with Ironwood sole. Ulmia has discontinued the production of wooden planes with Ironwood (Lignum Vitae) soles. This plane is now only available with White Beech Sole. The Ulmia Jack Plane is used for leveling and smoothing surfaces in preparation for final smoothing. It features a high quality iron and chipbreaker and an White Beech sole. The iron is adjusted by means of a wooden wedge. Simply tap the iron for a deeper cut, or tap the strike plate on the heel for a more shallow cut. This plane body is 240mm (9 1/2″) long X 64mm (2 1/2″) with a 48mm (1 7/8″) iron width and a cutting angle of 45 degrees. Iron bevel angle is 25 degrees. Mouth is not adjustable. Made in Germany. Wooden hand planes are a viable alternative to metal planes with mechanical adjusters.
