Description The Ulmia “Short Jointer Plane” is 19 inches long and might be more commonly referred to as a Fore Plane. Traditionally it is used for rough surfacing with the iron slightly crowned, prior to using a longer jointer plane to flatten the surface. The short jointer also excels at jointing tasks on smaller pieces such as instrument parts. Its particular feature is a steeper cutting angle of 49°, which lends the short jointer plane characteristics similar to a very long smoothing plane. The iron is adjusted by means of a wooden wedge.
