Description Michael ‘Tinker’ Pearce has designed a series of swords manufactured by Hanwei in 5160 steel that emphasize authenticity, functionality and performance. To meet the combat and cutting needs of Western martial artists, each of the 7 styles is manufactured in both live (sharp) and combat (blunt) versions and each sword has outstanding handling characteristics. Carefully controlled heat treatment of 5160 steel (Tinker’s blade steel of choice) through the tempering process produces an excellent combination of toughness and flexibility with a hardness of HRC 50-52, allowing for superior edge retention on cutting edges, anti-burrs and tip. Replacement blades are available for all swords in the series; a key feature of Tinker’s designs is the interchangeability of the blades within each pair of swords with the exception of the Viking, allowing the user to purchase a full sword and a replacement blade to enjoy both versions. Long swords, bastard swords and early medieval swords feature Tinker’s recessed sleeve nut mounting system, which provides secure hilt retention, adjustment and easy blade change with the Allen wrench provided. The hand and half swords (Oakeshott type XV111A) are designed so that the sharp and blunt versions function identically, offering combat and cutting with blades that feel and respond in the same way. The tip section of the blunt versions provides the necessary flexibility for safety. The wheel-shaped knob is sized to provide a second hand grip, the straight, tapered cross-section provides excellent hand protection. The hardwood core handle is wrapped in leather over rope, with steel hardware. Leather covered sheath is included.
