Description Michael ‘Tinker’ Pearce has designed a series of swords manufactured by Hanwei in 5160 steel that emphasize authenticity, functionality and performance. To meet the combat and cutting needs of Western martial artists, each of the 7 styles is manufactured in both live (sharp) and combat (blunt) versions and each sword has outstanding handling characteristics. Carefully controlled heat treatment of 5160 steel (Tinker’s blade steel of choice) using the tempered produces an excellent combination of toughness and flexibility with a hardness of HRC 50-52, which allows for superior edge retention on cutting edges, anti-burrs and tip. -safety bending features on the blunts. While not a direct copy of any particular sword, the Viking sword design was inspired by historical examples from the early 9th century, particularly finds from Trondheim, Norway, where hilt decoration with circular indentations was popular.
